About Us
Our History: Dr Ed Becker conceived, designed and built The Animal Hospital from the ground up on over 22 acres of farm land in Guilderland, NY. The year was 1974 and our country was in the worst recession since World War Two! He chose this location as a pet-safe environment away from the hustle and bustle of traffic and noise. The secluded feel of our grounds makes it easy to forget that we are in the suburbs, just minutes away from Crossgates Mall. Clients often walk with their pets to the swan pond or sit and overlook the pasture.
Our building, though outfitted with the
most current 
veterinary
technology, remains one that is warm, inviting and even home-like. The waiting
area, complete with a brick fireplace, is specially designed so that the traffic
flow proceeds without crowding. The five exam rooms are adjacent to the
reception desk, the laboratory and the pharmacy, to make flow efficient.
Likewise, our treatment room is a central hub surrounded by triage, surgery,
radiology/ultrasound imaging, patient wards, doctor's office, and employee
lounge. The current building footprint is the result of five different additions
over the past 38 years. Of note is our full building automatic generator. This
was a necessary addition to prevent hospitalized patients and surgeries from
being interrupted by power outages. Outdoors, we have a 9,000 cubic foot flight
cage for our wildlife and endangered species.
Most
recently we gave our reception desk and cabinets a facelift, taking care to
match the updates with the numerous antiques collected by Dr. Becker through the
years. Our next task is to update the exam room decor. We appreciate any
