Fungi are very slow growing organisms that cause crusting, scaling, hair loss, and itchiness of the skin.  They are very resistant to treatment and require a long course of therapy, but will resolve with perseverance.

Here are some points to remember:

• 1.  Assume your pet will require at least six months of treatment.
  

• 2.  The oral medication must be given daily with a very fatty meal to enhance absorption.  You can use melted lard or bacon drippings mixed with food, followed immediately by the medication.
  

• 3.  You may assist treatment with anti-fungal shampoos (bathe weekly) and anti-fungal topical lotions such as Lotrimin, Panalog, or athletes foot ointments and sprays.
  

• 4.  We refill your pet's medication in six week increments.
  

• 5.  Once the skin looks 100% normal, we give at lest a two-week course of medication to insure that all of the remaining fungal elements and spores are destroyed so that the infection will not recur.

Please be patient and don't give up hope.  Your pet should get better in time.  Contact your Veterinarian with any questions you may have.
