Legacy & Mission

Our History

Since 1974, The Animal Hospital has remained a private, family-owned pillar of the community. Dr. Lexi acquired the practice in 2014 from her father, who built the clinic on a foundation of hometown values and high-quality medicine. Today, we continue that legacy by blending state-of-the-art technology with the attentive care that defines our hospital.

Located in a peaceful, park-like setting, our clinic offers a serene environment. We take pride in knowing our clients and patients by name and supporting the neighborhoods that have trusted us for generations.

Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our status as an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited hospital. This standard is held by only 15% of practices and recently earned us a nomination for AAHA Accredited Practice of the Year, representing the pinnacle of achievement in our profession. Furthermore, we have been voted Capital Region Living Magazine’s Best Animal Hospital for ten consecutive years, which is a testament to the trust our clients place in us.

Our Vision

Our vision is to define the future of local veterinary care by staying true to our hometown values while providing the latest state-of-the-art technology. We strive to remain a trusted resource where advanced medicine and a personalized small-hospital experience work together to support our community's animals.

Furthermore, if financial limitations arise, we are prepared to offer resources and guidance to help you navigate your pet’s care.

Meet the Founder

Dr. Ed Becker, DVM

Founder/Veterinarian

Ed Becker, DVM is the founder of The Animal Hospital. He graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine with honors and then spent his first year of practice in Africa working at a free clinic in Marrakesh. After returning to the States, he joined a small animal practice in Elmira, New York, for a year before designing and building The Animal Hospital. Ed has always had a deep respect for all animals and an especially strong commitment to wildlife. Therefore, he treated countless sick and injured wildlife free of charge. The expertise developed in wildlife rehabilitation and treatment gave him the opportunity to become the consulting veterinarian for the New York State DEC Endangered Species Unit. He held this position for over 25 years. During this time, many endangered species—including bald eagles, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and literally thousands of other furry and feathered patients—were successfully treated and released. His primary focus was always treating and healing those animals that have a special bond with you. Ed is now retired and spends his leisure time rebuilding his 170-year-old lake home. He shares his life with his wife, Sally. Ed was honored by being nominated and elected to the Cornell University Council and was recently elected to the board of directors of the Lake George Land Conservancy. He is also vice president of the Antique and Classic Boat Society Adirondack Chapter.
